Updated: Dec 4, 2019

It is time to meet our May 26th - June 1st, 2019, Weekly Feature Creative, Nicole!

Business Name: Kairi Blue Photography

Type of Creative: Photographer

Genres: Lingerie/Boudoir/Nude, Fashion, Portrait, Weddings, Lifestyle/Candid & Event

Tell us about you! What is your story? Married, kids, fur babies? What things do you do besides your craft? Hi! I'm Nicole! I have always had a love of photography dating back to my elementary school days. After I had my daughter 4 years ago, a photographer friend of mind encouraged me to pick up my camera and just go for it. My daughter is my muse, so I named by company after her. I love natural light photography and prefer a more candid approach and natural smiles. I use prompts and story telling to set the mood for my photo shoots. My husband is also a videographer. We are a very silly duo and work seamlessly together. We have one beautiful daughter, Kairi. We also have a doggy; her name is Momo and she is a Chihuahua Dash hound mix.

Photographers... be straight with us... what brand do you use? What is your favorite piece of gear - lens, camera body, etc? I use a Canon T6i. My go to lens is my 50mm 1.8 and my 85mm 1.8 - I prefer a prime lens. Although I have studio lighting, I prefer natural light.

What makes your passion shine and what are you most passionate about when you see your finished work? My favorite part would be when my clients say "I didn't think I could look this awesome," I like to show them the beauty I see inside and out and bring out their personality as much as I can in their photos. I take my time to get to know my clients and it shows in the finished work. Everything is catered to fit them.

What has been the hardest part of being a photographer/model/makeup artist/hair stylist, etc? Although I love little ones, being 5'10" doesn't make being on my knees or laying down for shots very easy, but it's totally worth the shot!

Would you change anything that you have learned? I only wished that I found a community like I have now, 3 years ago!

What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind with your work? I want to show the love I put behind each person I photograph, I want their story to be told.

What advice do you have for people just starting out? Don't be scared. It doesn't matter what gear you have, go take pictures! Have fun with it! There is no wrong way! It's your art, your vision.

Thank you Nicole for sharing your creative journey with us! We love having you as part of the Artistic Alliance Community!
