Tell us about you! What is your story? Married, kids, fur babies? What things do you do besides your craft? I've always been driven by creativity, but never imagined I could find success in it. So, I followed the majority and began the corporate world shortly after graduating high school. Years and years passed, never truly happy with my so-called career. In the mists of time, photography had sparked an interest I wanted to explore but wasn't ready to fully commit. More years went by and finally with love and support from my husband, I was able to pursue and eventually transition from a 9-5 to what is now my dream business. I have married for 5 years and mommy to a fur baby named Benji for 2 years. Aside from photography, I love to take dance classes, travel, watch movies or favorite TV shows and try new restaurants.
Photographers... be straight with us... what brand do you use? What is your favorite piece of gear - lens, camera body, etc? I use a Nikon D750 and love my 50mm lens. I find myself using it for all portrait sessions and most of the wedding day.
What makes your passion shine and what are you most passionate about when you see your finished work? I truly care about my work and capturing a complete story for my clients. I often find myself staying 10-15 minutes over my scheduled time, just to make sure I get all shots needed. I love that my clients trust me and chose me to preserve such special moments in their lives. And, of course, seeing my finished work in print form is what makes me most proud and reignites my love for this craft.
What has been the hardest part of being a photographer? I am a bit of a perfectionist and tend to be my worst critique, but when I take a step back and see how my work has progressed through the years is when I feel accomplished and the success from year-to-year.
Would you change anything that you have learned? Absolutely not! I'm where I need to be and because of what I've done in the past. I may have taken the longer road, but I appreciate everything I've learned along the way.
What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind with your work? My goal is for my clients to look at their images and relive the moments captured. But most importantly, for them to be able to see the history of their family for generations ahead through these photographs.
What advice do you have for people just starting out? Don't focus on what other people are doing. Focus on your business, mastering your craft and refine what makes you different.
