It is time to meet our July 26th - August 1st, Weekly Feature Creative, David!
Creative's Name: David Twede
Type of Creative: Photographer
Genres: Landscape/Nature/Wildlife, Artistic, Full Spectrum, Infrared, Human Interest
Tell us about you! What is your story? Married, kids, fur babies? What things do you do besides your craft? Over 20 years ago, I began developing full-spectrum and infrared color photography through my scientific endeavors. I pioneered some of the state-of-the-art and most commonly used techniques today.
Be straight with us... what brand do you use? What is your favorite piece of gear? I have modified a variety of cameras/brands over the years. I use proprietary filters, some of which have been patented. I'm not a brand person. I am an inventive person.
When you go on one of your travels, where do you go & what gear do you bring with you?
Anywhere I go, I find subjects of interest. Just look through the very sparse and few samples I have on my Instagram portfolio, which I created only about a week ago.
What editing programs do you use? My work is created through optical filters and proper exposure. I try not to do much editing or post-processing.
What has been the hardest part of being a photographer? How long have you been a photographer? Having to explain the odd still of photography that I do over and over again. Education is probably one of the most difficult parts of what I do. People really like the style, but they mistake what I do as if it is just Photoshop. No, this is pure physics, not Photoshop.
What makes your passion shine and what are you most passionate about when you see your finished work? I shine because I'm inventive. I have created my own optical filters. I appreciated my own style. I have generated a unique look and fresh art.
Would you change anything that you have learned? What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind with your work? I would learn how to market better.
Among your works, which is your favorite & why? That is incredibly difficult to answer. Many of my photos have personal meaning. One of the models that I worked with committed suicide a few months after we worked together. Her photo won an international award, but she never knew. Another photo of mine, of a scenic ranch, made the news because that place was bulldozered for a strip mall development only months later.
What inspires you? Who's work had influenced you most? What is the most rewarding part for you? I don't think I could place the influences on any one person.
Tell us something we wouldn't know about you, from looking at your portfolio. I'm a well-registered scientist with 16 patents and more pending.
What advice do you have for people just starting out? Always be true to your vision. Don't worry about what others think.
Thank you, David, for sharing your creative journey with us! We love having you as part of the Artistic Alliance Community!
